Slot-type filters for the filtration
of highly viscous refinery residues
For the filtration of highly viscous refinery residues, FAUDI has designed a solution that can be used under special conditions: Slot-type filters with a steam tracing.
The slot-type filters are used in a refinery in northern Germany, which has already been successfully operating this type of filter in a similar plant for many years. The medium is a residual product from the refinery, which is to be freed from solids larger than 0.25 mm. Due to its viscosity when cold, the filter is heated with steam to keep the medium flowable. The slot-type filter is monitored by differential pressure. In the event of contamination, the filter element is rotated by a geared motor and the built-in scraper device frees the surface of the can from contaminants. These sediment into the lower housing area and can be discharged via a discharge fitting. This operating principle ensures that the filter does not need to be emptied for cleaning purposes, nor does the housing need to cool down to allow maintenance personnel safe access.
In this case, the filtration of highly viscous refinery residues minimizes the shutdown time of the entire plant and in addition, it leads to greater cost-effectiveness in general.
